1 Jerusalem to Be Attacked10 “I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem,hthe Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn. 11 In that day there will be great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning of Hadadrimmon in theiplain ofjMegiddo. |
13 A promise of pardon, of reformation, and of the conviction and silencing of false prophets, Zec 13:1-6.
A clear prediction of the sufferings of Christ, the destruction of the Jews, and the purifying of a remnant, Zec 13:7-9.
13:1 A fountain - The blood of Christ. Opened - The spouse is to Christ a fountain sealed, but Christ is to sinners a fountain opened.Inhabitants of Jerusalem - The inhabitants of Jerusalem are all to whom the gospel is preached. For uncleanness - For purging away all manner of sins and uncleannesses.
Galatians, Chapter 3, verses 26-29
15 Intent of the Law26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there isajneither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if youakbelong to Christ, then you are Abraham’saldescendants, heirs according to promise. |

3:26 For ye - Christians. Are all adult sons of God - And so need a schoolmaster no longer.
3:27 For as many of you as have testified your faith by being baptized in the name of Christ, have put on Christ - Have received him as your righteousness, and are thereforesons of God through him.
3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek - That is, there is no difference between them; they are equally accepted through faith. There is neither male nor female - Circumcision being laid aside, which was peculiar to males, and was designed to put a difference, during that dispensation, between Jews and gentiles.
3:29 If ye are Christ's - That is, believers in him.
Luke, Chapter 9, verses 18-24
12 Five Thousand Fed18 And it happened that while He was praying alone, the disciples were with Him, and He questioned them, saying, “Who do thekpeople say that I am?” 19 They answered and said, “John the Baptist, and others say Elijah; but others, that one of the prophets of old has risen again.” 20 And He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered and said, “ThelChrist of God.” 21 But Hemwarned them and instructed them not to tell this to anyone, 22 saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed and be raised up on the third day.” | |

9:18 Apart - From the multitude. And he asked them - When he had done praying, during which they probably stayed at a distance. Mat 14:13; Mar 8:27.
9:22 Saying - Ye must prepare for a scene far different from this.
9:23 Let him deny himself, and take up his cross - The necessity of this duty has been shown in many places: the extent of it is specified here, daily - Therefore that day is lost wherein no cross is taken up.

God will strengthen the weakest of his people, Zec 12:7-8.

12:10 I will pour - This was fulfilled on Christ's exaltation, when he sent the Comforter to his disciples, it is daily performed to the children of God, and will be continually, 'till we are brought to be with Christ for ever. The house of David - The whole family of Christ, his house who was the seed of David, and who is called David, Eze 37:24.The spirit of grace - Which is fountain of all graces in us.Pierced - Every one of us by our sins pierced him, and many of the Jews literally. Mourn - They shall literally lament the crucifying of the Lord Jesus. In bitterness - True repentance will bitterly lament the sins which brought sorrows and shame upon our Lord.
12:11 In that day - When the Jews shall mourn for their sins, and for that great sin, crucifying the Lord of glory. A great mourning - A mourning exprest by the greatest the Jews ever were acquainted with, and which for its greatness grew into a proverb. The mourning for Josiah slain at Hadadrimmon, a town in the valley of Megiddo.
