Among these blessings, by which God asks to the priests to bless His people, a special place occupies the blessing of peace. Of course a peaceful life is good, can doubt of this certainly only a too bloodthirsty or very frivolous person. But is it only about a peaceful life in this case?

It is probably note a fate that this blessing happens to be connected with another one, with that, in which is mentioned the mercy ("grace") of God (verse 25), and both together make the blessing as such, which will help to keep the people (verse 24). Certainly, and a peaceful life is in itself necessary for the preservation of the people: the Jews were never so many to allow theirselves taking part in a big war.

But for it to become possible, God's direct intervention in the fate of His people is necessary, otherwise, to survive in this political situation, which was in the Middle East (and it was never quiet over there), was completely unreal. But such an intervention, as we see, never limits itself to the decision of a single concrete task.

Maybe, it is in particular why we are sometimes so shilly-shally in our prayers: consciously or subconsciously we understand that God will certainly resolve our problems, but after that He will not leave us anymore and will not leave us in peace, He will try to make us His till the end.

So and for the people of God the blessing of peace, was of course directly connected to a peaceful life, a life without war, with which each was certainly satisfied. But God always went farther, wishing to transform His people into a community of believers, for which peace would be inseparable of His presence and communication with Him.
