So Paul has said it. And we so wanted to pass somewhere along the edge, well, more or less decently... To fit within the framework of "acceptable behavior"... But he speaks sharply: "Holiness, without which no one will see the Lord." There it is. We keep saying: saints are one thing, and we, ordinary people, are another... The apostle Paul knocks the ground from under our feet. Perhaps they really are wiser, more righteous; perhaps it really is easier for them than for us. But none of this will help us at all. Without holiness it is impossible to see the Lord. But the essence of holiness is not "not doing this, that, the fifth thing, and the twentieth." Remember that the Hebrew word qadosh, translated "holy," literally means "set apart." A holy person is one who belongs wholly to God, not to the world. Without this separation from the world and dedication to God, to see Him is impossible.
