There is a difference between knowledge and experience. The proverb says: "Better to see once than to hear a hundred times." The elders of Israel, entering into covenant with God, acquire the experience of a meeting with Him, and His majesty, glory, and voice are not simply words for them, but an unquestionable reality filling their life.

For us the word "today" is very important here. It joins the time in which we find ourselves with the Eternity in which God lives. This means that if today we experience a meeting with God in which His glory and majesty appear to us, then this day becomes part of our eternal life.

No matter how the Torah changes throughout history, the commandments remain unchanged. They are the spiritual core of the Torah, without which it does not exist. At first glance, it may appear that there is hardly any sense here in speaking of spiritual tradition...
