Sometimes it appears to us that if we give someone a Bible and explain how to understand it correctly, and also add several testimonies from different people about their conversion and about the meaning of Christ in their lives, then that person will certainly come to faith. And if that result is not achieved, then we begin blaming and punishing ourselves: we did something badly, not the way we should have.

But here before us is an example: the great apostle, the great preacher and teacher of the whole Church, spends an entire day speaking about Jesus, and not to random people, but to those who themselves wanted to hear him and came specifically for that purpose - and this is the result: "Some were convinced by what he said, but others did not believe." Yes, faith comes from hearing, as the same apostle Paul says elsewhere, but faith is also a gift from above, and also a voluntary decision of the person himself. You can bring a person to a decision, but you cannot decide for him.
