In the Third Book of Ezra (3 Ezra 14:44-48) there is mention of 94 books written by the prophet in the wilderness over 40 days under the direct guidance of the Lord. Their content, according to the words of the prophet: "all that has been done in the world from the beginning, which was written in Your law". The Lord commanded the first of these books to be made available to all, but the remaining 70 books to be preserved for the wise among the people. Is anything known about the fate of these texts, and where can one become acquainted with them?

The first of the aforementioned books are the so-called canonical books of the Old Testament, while the latter are the apocalyptic literature of the Old Testament apocrypha. In the circles to which Ezra belonged, they were valued more highly than the canonical ones—but only in those circles.
