Dear friends!
Reading the Bible can raise many questions, and it is not always easy to find answers on your own. We publish answers to frequently asked questions, so the question you want to ask may already have been answered here.
I am struggling to understand anything regarding the devil. The account of the first sin speaks only of a serpent speaking with a human voice. Could it be that God Himself was testing humanity's endurance? Meanwhile, it is frequently said that Eve was tempted by the devil. They say he is a fallen angel. A Bible dictionary provides numerous verse references on this topic, but they all seem to address rather abstract matters.
The Bible speaks of the devil sparingly and obscurely. The Old Testament does so to prevent the temptation of worshipping him (a temptation that arose more than once). The New Testament does so because it calls us not to speculate about him, but rather to resist him in our hearts and in our lives. Therefore, Bible dictionaries do indeed present a somewhat nebulous picture. In our view, from a practical standpoint, it is useful for a person to know the following regarding him: a) he is a created spirit who rebelled against the will of God; b) it is he who, in the guise of a serpent, tempts humanity (note that through the figures of Adam and Eve, the Bible is speaking of every human being); c) he has been defeated by the resurrection of Christ; d) at the end of the age, he will be cast out of creation. The rest is perhaps not of great practical importance. Ultimately, the Bible tells us about God, and not about the devil.
If you do not find an answer to your question in these materials - write us, we will try to look for answers together.
We would like you to keep in mind the fact that the number of questions far exceeds our capability to answer them fast. We apologize in advance for a possible delay. Thank you for understanding.
