NOTES for Jer 25:1-38

When reading about the very beginning of the world one shouldn’t forget that Genesis, just like the whole Bible, tells us not about the past but about the present. Using ancient symbolic language it reveals the truths that have no shadow of changing, no matter what happens with science of physics or history. This is a short story showing us the unbreakable connections of the world around us – the light, the earth and the waters, trees and grass, fishes, animals and birds – with the One who is beyond all that and yet, so guessable through it. How can one convey that mystery? The world was not created by itself. And we are not the ones who created it. There’s the One who is in charge of the world and who sustains its existence. He rejoices in the beauty of the creation seeing how very good it is. For those who learned to contemplate that mystery, everything good and beautiful in the world constantly tells of the One who created the world in the very beginning to be given to us.
