NOTES for Luk 14:25-33

The Gospel reading complements today’s MAIN NEWS. The gift of wisdom is necessary to know God’s will, but so is our own effort to make use of that gift. The Holy Spirit who has been sent down enables us to determine the cost and calculate our resources, but we ourselves must do so. At the same time, Jesus also suggests the correct result of this calculation: our strength will be precisely sufficient to renounce everything, take up the cross, and follow Him.
