NOTES for Мк 4:24-34

Today the Lord tells us an exceptionally important parable, permeated with deep compassion for human nature. Immediately after explaining the parable of the sower, He speaks of a man who sows seed and “does not know how the seed sprouts and grows.” This is extremely important from a practical point of view. Indeed, imagine what would happen if the sower began pulling up the shoot every hour to measure how much its root had lengthened. Clearly, by the third time the little plant would have dried up completely.

When you enter the Church and become a disciple of Christ, it is important to remember this, because the question inevitably comes: “What has changed in me? Am I growing beyond myself quickly enough? What rung of the spiritual ladder have I already reached?” You are not supposed to know. Your concern is to nourish the planted seed and not delay in bearing fruit. Otherwise your spiritual labor becomes work on yourself and for yourself rather than for Jesus.
