NOTES for Joh 1:19-51
If yesterday we read how God revealed Himself through His Word, which became Man, today the evangelist tells us exactly how He makes those who believe in Him children of God. Perhaps the key words in this Gospel are “encounter” and “disciples.” Almost all the situations John describes are encounters between Jesus and various people who then become His disciples. What is an encounter? The Teacher saw each of us before we knew about Him, but one last (and also first) step remains for us: to come to His home, learn where He lives, and then tell those we love about Him. Then we too will become “witnesses” to what we have seen and heard, witnesses to His coming into the world from the Father. Then He will become for us the ladder by which the world above and our world are joined.
