NOTES for Amo 4:1-13

Amos’s prophecies depict the King’s wrath against His sinful subjects. People are able to see the Creator’s omnipotence and mercy in the beauty and rational order of nature, and they can also discern in calamities God’s rejection of human sin. Terrible is the punishment God sends upon sinners: He allows everything to run “its natural course”—drought, famine, pestilence, wars... But God has prepared something far greater: “Prepare to meet your God, O Israel” (Amos 4:12)!
