NOTES for Mat 8:27
The miracle Jesus performed did not go unnoticed by people. That is already no small thing, because most often people prefer not to notice miracles if they do not touch them directly. A miracle is when it is for me; in other cases it is chance or coincidence. Let us look further: the people were amazed. This too is a plus. More often people are frightened or shrug indifferently. Third: people ask themselves the most important question, about the identity of the One who did this. Usually we are interested in how it was done.
So the people have taken three very important steps; only one more remains: to answer this question for themselves, to acknowledge that the One who rules the winds and the sea is most of all the One who created them, and this means that Jesus is connected with God in a special way, not as each of us is. But this step is hardest of all: so it was two thousand years ago, and so it is now.
