NOTES for LukĀ 16:1-31

The Gospel very often draws parallels between earthly and heavenly wealth. This is no accident, because in life some people always have more of something, material or spiritual, than others. The relationships between them form part of human relationships as a whole. The central words of this chapter are probably verses 9-12. Do we realize that everything we have is not ours? That it has been given to us only as stewards who must properly manage what they possess? Christians, and indeed humanity in general, can have only one purpose: to embody God’s eternal love where we are, that is, to serve one another. Therefore, if we use this alien wealth rightly, guided by love, in return we will receive what is our own: the fruits that grow from such relationships, abiding in God’s love and light.
