NOTES for Jos 18:1-28
The Israelites have not yet established themselves throughout the land, but the land they entered is already called conquered, and therefore its division among the tribes continues. Nevertheless, part of the people is in no hurry to occupy the territories assigned to them, so Joshua is forced to urge those who are delaying.
How often, after receiving something we desired, we put it away for later and then forget to use it. The thing then wears out, or, though it remains intact, becomes unnecessary, even though it could have served us wonderfully at the earlier moment that we allowed to pass.
It is therefore all the more important to recognize in time which of His gifts the Lord gives us for this very moment, desiring that His gift be put to use.
