NOTES for Isa 36:1-22

Four chapters were included in the book of the prophet Isaiah (36-39) to describe, as it were, the historical context of the prophecies. Here we read about the Assyrian invasion of Judah during the reign of King Hezekiah and how the king’s trust in God led to the salvation of Jerusalem. Today we are told about the very clever Assyrian commander Rabshakeh and his attempt to induce the king to surrender and the people of Jerusalem to rebel against their king. Notice that in both cases he has to cast doubt on the king’s and the people’s trust in the Lord. We will learn tomorrow what came of it.
