NOTES for Isa 12:1-6

This hymn, which relates to the preceding messianic prophecy, can also become our prayer, for we live in an age when the prophecies are being fulfilled. People from every nation call upon the name of the Lord and draw living water from him (compare Jn 7:38); the Lord dwells among his people (Rev 21:3). But prophecies have one distinctive feature: the time of their fulfillment depends on the condition of our heart. Though we live in the New Covenant era, we may remain outside the salvation foretold many centuries before us. May “that day,” the day of song, joy, and salvation, come for us too!
