NOTES for Luk 9:46-62
These words are addressed not only to those who are just beginning to follow Jesus. They are addressed to the disciples themselves, and to us. Does it never “occur to us” to wonder which of us is greater? Or do we never feel the urge to “forbid” someone who thinks differently? Or to ask God to send fire from heaven upon our enemies, “as Elijah did”? Do we always know what spirit we are of? Yet many of us have not merely “put a hand to the plow” but have already plowed half the field. And what now—are we looking back again?
