NOTES for Psa 47:6-7
But in what song is different from conversation? Correct, with music. But music is a rhythm and melody, which is what isn’t expressed by words, what isn’t verbalized. You have probably heard the scientists say that in our brain the left hemisphere answers for the logical and verbal thought, and the right - for the perceptions, non-verbal. Language is generated by the left hemisphere, and music - by the right. There is more logic in language, while in music it is emotions. Therefore, the song inserts into work the two hemispheres of our brain, all our intelligence and the emotional sphere in more. We give ourselves completely in prayer when we sing. Not casually Saint Augustine said: "the singer prays twice ".
Only let’s not forget the last words of our passage of today: "sing, with understanding". Our emotional sphere must be inserted into the prayer, but shouldn’t swamp everything. God is Intelligence in a much bigger degree than emotion, and communication with Him is first of all rational, although emotional also.
