NOTES for Eph 5:9-19

Today the Orthodox Church celebrates the Day of the Holy Spirit, and the Letter to the Ephesians reminds us that “the fruit of the Spirit is found in all that is good and right and true” (v. 9) and calls us to “be filled with the Spirit” (v. 18). The apostle Paul calls this new human state “light in the Lord.” The apostle John uses the same image of light when he speaks of brotherly love among believers (1 Jn 2:10). In the spirit of love, we are called to “seek those who are lost” (Mt 18:10-14), to resolve problems in our relationships (Mt 18:15-18), and finally to receive God's grace through prayer in one accord, in Christ's name and in His presence, as He has promised us.
