NOTES for 2 Пар 31:1-21
The king began eradicating the idols, and the people continued throughout the country. The king then commanded that material support be provided for the Temple, and this time it could not be provided without the participation of the entire people.
The point was not that the king wanted to shift care for the Temple onto the shoulders of his subjects. Hezekiah was not stingy in giving for the needs of the house of the Lord and of those who stood before Him in the Temple, so that no concerns might distract them from their ministry. But the Temple was not the king's personal creation; it had been built by all the people. Therefore, restoring the Temple to its proper condition, maintaining it, and caring for its needs was the concern of the entire people, a visible expression of their faith.
And not only do peoples build temples; temples also build up the souls of those ready to support them, even according to their modest means, comparable to the widow's mite that she would bring to the Temple in the days of the Son of Man.
