NOTES for Mar 10:2-16
The Pharisees and other respectable people from the established adult world came to Jesus with a question about divorce. They receive a rather severe answer that allows for no compromise. In saying that divorce is impossible, Christ appeals not to Moses or the Law, but directly to God Himself and to the order of the world established by Him from the beginning of time. This answer is not easy for them to hear; they might well ask, as the Pharisees do in another Gospel passage, “Who then can be saved?”
Immediately after this discussion, the Savior points to a child and says that “whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” It turns out that the ideal to which Jesus calls us is open to us, but only if we receive it like children. We must not overthink and philosophize, but remember that the Father Himself is leading us by the hand, and with Him everything becomes possible.
