NOTES for Ti2 4:10-17
The apostle Paul speaks about the purpose for which the Lord strengthened and delivered him. It turns out that, for Paul, nothing that happens to him is without purpose. The Lord does not save him merely to do something pleasant for His apostle—for Paul, death would not be a misfortune but gain, as he writes in another epistle (Phil 1:21). In his deliverance, Paul seeks first of all an answer to the question: “Why? If the Lord wished to preserve my life in a hopeless situation, then for what purpose?” And he finds the answer: to confirm the Good News, so that all unbelievers may learn about Christ.
