NOTES for Psa 107
The extreme situations listed here, in which people faced natural forces or human hostility and were saved when they turned to God, should not be viewed merely as examples from the past and stories about people far removed from us. They are also images of the situations into which we fall when we stray from the right path: one can find oneself in a desert, in the middle of a storm, or in the bonds of slavery without ever leaving home, in the midst of familiar everyday life. If we turn away from God, these things can overcome us. Then, even if there is no shortage of drinking water, the springs of living water become blocked, our inner strength dries up, and, having turned away from the Lord, we refuse to understand why this is happening...
It is so simple to turn to Him, yet for many it proves so difficult to resolve to do so. Meanwhile, the One who turns the desert into a pool and dry land into springs of water can give living water to any one of us and revive us at any stage of drying up. If only we would accept His gift.
