NOTES for Psa 150
A person who admires something or someone often cannot find the words to express his feelings. He looks around and fixes his gaze on everything that comes into view, repeating the same thing several times in order to convey to others what he feels, sees, and has experienced. Repeating it again and again, he becomes convinced that words are powerless to express what is happening. The ability to put what one sees into words is a rare gift. What, then, can be said of a person’s attempt to speak of his adoration of God? Inexpressible in words, He is worthy of worship and admiration. And as he looks at ordinary musical instruments, the psalmist tries to share with us his gift of praising the One who alone is worthy of praise.
