NOTES for Deu 30:11

The aspiration in the ideal was typical to people in all the times, including when it concerned public life. It is not by chance if the first projects of the ideal State appeared in the antiquity. But all these projects had one weak point: they did not come from a biblical representation, but from a humanitarian representation of man, which is based on the postulate saying that man is initially good, but spoils his environment education thus the society.

And all the creators of the projects of the ideal State relied on the fact that man is a perfect being, and the task of the ideal State consists in making this perfection manifest itself in a big measure. The Torah (as the Bible in general) relies on the fact that in the state of humanity we deal with a sinner, and thus, people far from being perfect, from whom it is impossible to ask for ideal.

All the commandments, all the Torah is made in particular for such sinful people. Reason for which we say that it is near of everyone: you should not be a superman hero to observe the Torah and keep commandments given by God. But, by observing the Torah and by keeping commandments, we can become another person; better than at first.

With God’s help we can even become worthy of the life in the Kingdom and obtain this Kingdom. And we can also create a perfect society on the sinful earth. Not "the best", as Platon called his ideal State, but, according to his expression, "second after the best ", that is the best of what is possible in our transforming world, but not yet transformed.

No matter the desire, we cannot create an ideal society, no matter how much we struggle it will not become sinless. But observing the Torah, keeping commandments is possible, as it is possible now, after the coming of Christ, to enter the Kingdom. It is only succession is necessary here. And determination to go till the end.
