NOTES for Ti1 3:1-13

We very often use the detailed account of what people entrusted with authority in the Church should be like in order to denounce them. It is not hard to find shortcomings in people who are always in the public eye—if not in them personally, then in their wives or children. But the problem is that there are no perfect people, no one is sinless, and someone still has to assume responsibility for the life of the church community. This burden is heavy because the one in command is God, and because people are never satisfied.
