NOTES for Num 16:1-50

What is freedom? If we have no right to leave a path we do not like, are we free? Can we say we possess such a right if an attempt to exercise it is punished by death? More generally, is life under a law, even one we accepted voluntarily, freedom? Is freedom merely following a path chosen earlier, rather than the possibility of choosing at every point along that path? And what if this path is the way out of slavery?
