NOTES for NumĀ 18:1-32
The Lord appoints priests as mediators between Himself and the people. They reconcile the people to God through sacrifices. They receive no income from the land: they are fed from the altar, and the Lord Himself is their portion. In the New Testament, the priesthood is given to all who believe in Christ. We therefore need to ask ourselves several questions: How are the rights and duties of the priests descended from Aaron reflected in the New Testament priesthood? What does it mean that the Lord is our portion? How do we carry out our ministry of reconciling the world to God?
