NOTES for Num 29:1-39

This chapter gives detailed statutes concerning the sacrifices at the feasts of Trumpets, Atonement, and Tabernacles (see Lev 23). The carefully developed calendar, tied to the cycle of agricultural work, was probably intended to help Israel live through the most important moments of religious life in a consistent way. Calling upon the Lord at the Feast of Trumpets, offering sacrifices for sin on the Day of Atonement, and commemorating its Exodus at the Feast of Tabernacles, God’s people learn to worship God rightly so that one day, in the person of the apostles, they may recognize His Son in the Man from Nazareth.
