NOTES for Deu 7:1-26

God fulfills the promises given to Israel “because He loves” this people. But at the same time He promises “steadfast love to those who love Him, to a thousand generations”—a scope that reaches our own time and many thousands of years beyond us. Within this twofold condition of mutual love, He can entrust to us, to human beings, His Son born this night. The Son will be able to fulfill His calling and save His people, a people which everyone may now join, only when His eternal love and ours—earthly and weak, yet nevertheless placed beside His mercy—can meet.
