NOTES for Pe1 1:17-21
Today's words from the epistle of the holy apostle Peter are among the most comforting in the Bible. The word “dark” perhaps best expresses what regularly happens to us—an inner crisis of some kind. What should we do when the heart is dark and empty? For the apostle Peter, the answer is obvious: turn to Scripture. The word spoken by the Holy Spirit through the prophets is a light, a lamp. If it is night in our heart, we have a lamp: the Word of God. But that is not all. The apostle Peter is absolutely certain that day will come, that the morning star will surely rise in our heart. However long the night may last, we can look toward the flame of God's Word and await the morning star, knowing that it will rise.
