NOTES for Isa 62:1-12
The prophet's ministry is to be one of those “who remind the Lord,” appointed constantly, again and again, to awaken people from spiritual slumber. This ministry is his inner need “not to keep silent for Zion's sake,” never to cease speaking of God's wrath and God's love, of repentance and joy. To one degree or another, this is also the ministry of each of us, for the Spirit of prophecy and understanding rests upon believers as well. Of course, one can speak of God not only in words; indeed, what is most important usually cannot be expressed in words. But our faith, our participation in the divine life of the Spirit, must somehow find expression in our relations with the people around us, to whom we are called to proclaim the good news in word and deed, and with ourselves—for we ourselves need to remind ourselves of the One Thing Needful every hour.
