NOTES for Лк 11:37-41
It is not the Lord's way to leave a rebuke without instruction, and today He speaks of the light given to people. In essence, He says that it is precisely the clouding of our sight by sin and vanity that deprives us of the ability to see the light and plunges the whole person into darkness. It is because of sin that we do not accept the sign of the prophet Jonah and fail to recognize God's voice in the words of Christ brought to us by the Gospel. The Lord says of this human condition: “If [your eye] is bad, your body also will be full of darkness.” Conversely, if we try to free ourselves from sin, do everything in our power, and ask God for mercy and help where our strength falls short, then we have the opportunity to see Christ, to recognize and love Him, and the light of God will illumine us.
