NOTES for Act 18:24-19:22

Today we read about the ministry of the Apostle Paul and his companions in the great port city of Ephesus, the capital of the Roman province of Asia. In several episodes described by Luke, we can see events very similar to what happens in our own day. Then as now, there are people fervent in spirit, striving with all their hearts to know the truth and to understand what is most important in life. One such person is Apollos, ready to preach and bring other people everything he has learned about salvation, while remaining open to greater knowledge and ready to hear the joyful news of Christ and of the gift of the Spirit from Paul’s disciples, Aquila and his wife Priscilla. It is no accident that Apollos later becomes one of Paul’s closest colleagues and friends, for the combination of readiness to teach and readiness to learn is a great and rare gift. This is precisely how the living message of Christ works and is passed on. If we always thirsted to deepen our faith and our knowledge of Him, while remaining ready to share that faith and knowledge with others, we too could contribute to the work of proclaiming the Gospel.
