NOTES for Heb 1:1-12; Mar 2:23-28; Mar 3:1-5

In the Epistle to the Hebrews, the apostle explains in the language and images of Jewish law that Jesus is the Son of God and that, equally with the Father, He took part in the creation of the world. In Christ's words in the Gospel, we hear a humble yet absolutely uncompromising reminder that He is Lord of the Sabbath. And on the Sabbath He heals. He asks: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it? And He hears no answer. This question is addressed to us as well. We are not accustomed to setting aside a day of the week for doing good: for visiting the sick, our parents, and our grandparents; for devoting our time to works of peace and care. If such an attitude becomes practical and constant, He will allow this day to become important and beneficial for healing our hearts and strengthening our faith.
