NOTES for Isa 40:18
In the biblical books are often met the expressions "image of God "and "likeness of God". On the other hand, the prophets said several times that God doesn’t have and cannot have image, remembering the sense of the second commandment of the Decalogue.
Certainly, in this commandment, it is in particular about words concerning the sacred statues and the saints images, so widely common to all the heathen peoples as antiquity, quite as the new age. But the problem, as we see, is not only in the images of the gods, who have no relation to the Unique. Involuntarily, we remember the history with the golden calf: indeed, the Jews required from Aaron "to do" for them not any heathen god, but to cast in the metal the image of The One, Who made the people come out from Egypt!
But the anger that came down from the mountain of Moses. Why so? Maybe, because the figure of the sacred ox symbolized Apis, or Baal, or again no one knows who, but only not the God of Abraham and Moses? And in the religious massive consciousness, regrettably, neither Apis, nor Baal ever rise up to the God of Abraham. And here is, the God of Abraham descends almost inevitably to Apis.
Well then the “yahvism” is transformed into paganism, covered with the monotheist envelope, the worst aspect of the paganism of all the possible: indeed, a sincere paganism does not claim to be the only real faith, it doesn’t pretend to be monotheism. And the paganism born in the monotheist tradition requires to itself relation, same as what engendered it, with deceit appropriating Abraham's worship due to God. And as the way leading to truth, proposes the adoring way to the spiritual dead.
