NOTES for Luk 1:57-66

It is curious that all God’s wondrous works come as surprises to us. In fact, God never undertakes anything serious without first warning people about it (Amos 3:7). Thus, before the coming of the Messiah, which God had prepared for several centuries, the greatest of the prophets—John—is sent into the world. His task is to be the herald who announces Christ’s appearance, to recognize him, and to point him out to the people. Yes, the Lord called him to his ministry while he was still in his mother’s womb, but each of us was created by the same God and is precious in his eyes; this is also what Psalm 138(139) says.
