NOTES for Psa 110
This psalm is one of the shortest, and in form it differs greatly from a simple prayer of praise, petition, or repentance. It begins in the way the prophets revealed to people what God says. Jesus interprets this psalm (Mt 22:42-46), which is why it is called messianic. It sets out in order the most essential things we know about the Messiah. He will come in power and glory. He is the true priest, holy and chosen. His coming will compel everyone to decide which side they are on. The choice between God and nonbeing will be so difficult that it resembles a war. And nevertheless, His coming will become a source of life, the living water that will give drink to everyone ready to accept Him as the Messiah.
