NOTES for Gen 24:32-67

The choice of a wife for Isaac happens in a way that very rarely happens in life. This is not about parents being able to dispose completely of their children's fate. The point is what basic principles for making the most important decisions in life we meet in today's passage. On the one hand, all the parties involved in this matter have completely entrusted themselves to God and handed over to Him the right to act and decide. On the other hand, even when asking for a sign from above, sober calculation and practical wisdom are used: if the young woman offers a drink not only to the unknown servant, but also waters the camels, then she is kind, caring, and capable in household matters; it means she has been well raised and comes from a good family; and it means she will be able to bring happiness to the one who becomes her husband.
