NOTES for Isa 36:1-22
The book of the prophet Isaiah contains four chapters (36-39) that describe, as it were, the historical context of the prophecies. Here we read about the Assyrian invasion of Judah during the reign of King Hezekiah and about how the king’s trust in God led to the deliverance of Jerusalem. Today we are told about the highly intelligent Assyrian commander Rabshakeh and his attempt to persuade the king to surrender and the people of Jerusalem to rebel against their king. Notice that in both cases he has to cast doubt on the king’s and the people’s trust in the Lord. Tomorrow we shall learn what came of it.
