NOTES for Co1 1:3-9
Today the Apostle Paul tells us that in Christ we have been enriched in everything. Not in “something,” but precisely in everything: “in every kind of speech and all knowledge.” In other words, God has given us all the knowledge about Him that we need. I still specify: that we need, because it is impossible for a creature to know Him fully as He is, at least in this world. He has given us every kind of speech, and if He calls us to bear witness to Him, we cannot say that we do not know how to preach. He has given us the ability to proclaim the Good News. And we “do not lack any gift”; that is, He has already given us every gift that can be needed—every gift He will need us to use. This does not mean that we need not ask for anything, for the fact that He has given something does not mean that we have received it. But what matters is that He has already done everything. We have been given everything we need. Let us be grateful.
