NOTES for Amo 8:1-14

Twenty-eight centuries have passed, and we can see clearly that although hunger and thirst exist in the world, the world's fate is determined not by them but by where and in what a person seeks the truth. Once again we wander from sea to sea, ranging now through the East and now through the West, carrying out deadly experiments on ourselves and others, deifying every product of the human mind and then becoming disillusioned. We are driven by a thirst to hear the words of the Lord, yet we do not accept what has already been given to us. We repeat “Man shall not live by bread alone...” like a proverb, having already forgotten where it was said and what follows it. We seek and, just as it is written, do not find, because the best place to look for something is where it is, not where it is not!
