NOTES for Isa 5:1-30

The gift of prophecy is not necessarily accompanied by a poetic gift, but when the two come together the result is astonishing. In this chapter we see how the divine truths revealed to Isaiah take shape in two works that are also remarkable from a literary point of view: the parable of the vineyard and the denunciation with its sixfold refrain, "Woe to those." It is no accident that the Son of God, who frequently quotes the prophet Isaiah, used these two passages as the basis of two of His sermons.
