NOTES for Rev 14:14-19

In today’s reading, the Apostle John speaks of the day of the great harvest. Is this already the judgment? It seems not yet. It is only the summing up. But even this summing up is disheartening: it is no accident that the grapes are thrown not merely into a winepress but into the winepress of God’s wrath. What does this mean for us today? Perhaps it is a reminder that nothing we do simply disappears. Every one of our actions will have consequences. And even if at some point we manage to correct something, our opportunities to make corrections are not endless. The day of harvest will come, when the final point is placed and nothing can be changed any longer.
