NOTES for Num 27:1-23

The land God promised to Israel is a pledge that those who possess it belong to the people of God. Therefore, a plot of land must not pass out of the family’s possession. Yet this same land, toward which Moses has journeyed for all these forty years, remains beyond his reach—he will not enter it and must appoint a successor. This sad fact reminds us once more of the incompatibility between the Kingdom of God and disobedience to God, who requires the fruit of our life from us and, in return, gives us Himself.
