NOTES for Deu 6:1-25
We all try to live according to the commandments, which in one way or another all come down to the commandments God gave Moses in the wilderness. Observing them often requires a definite effort of will. Sometimes, at best, obedience to them becomes natural and habitual for us. But do we realize that the main motive for living according to the commandments should be neither habit, nor their correspondence with ordinary moral standards, nor even the desire for moral perfection, but solely love for God and reverence before him? Without this, a pious life becomes sanctimony and hypocrisy.
