NOTES for Deu 28:35-68
In this final part of the curses upon apostates, the Lord shows the people how all the joys of life—family, home, harvest, and peaceful living—can collapse in an instant if people forget their God. It is not that He intimidates them or forces them to worship Him under compulsion. It is simply that all His gifts—and every good thing comes from above—exist only to lead a person forward, toward the One who gives them. If a person turns away from God and forgets Him, it means that all these blessings have failed to fulfill their purpose, have therefore become meaningless, and are taken away.
