NOTES for Deu 32:1-25
One of the themes of this song is the roots of human unfaithfulness before God. Unbelief is born of surfeit, self-confidence, and self-sufficiency. It is no accident that the biblical image of godlessness is a fattened heart, while the Kingdom of God belongs to the poor. Why does this happen? Why does a prosperous person begin to rely on his money, talents, and strength? Is it really impossible to receive all this with gratitude and humility? It probably is possible, if the heart has not grown fat and hope in God remains. And if what He gives is used by us not for ourselves but in service to people. Then there is a chance not to forget God but, on the contrary, to give Him glory and serve the work He is accomplishing on our earth.
