NOTES for Joh 16:20-23
A remarkable catechist has a universal answer to overly complicated questions: “When you die, you can ask Him yourself.” In today's reading Jesus speaks astonishing words: “In that day you will ask Me nothing!” How can that be? Why? Why do all the questions disappear? Because He will see us—and note this: it is not we who will see Him, but He who will see us! And when He looks each one of us in the eye, there will be no questions left. Because He has been waiting for me; He wanted to see me again; and when He sees me, a true Encounter takes place, after which there can be no questions. Apostle Paul writes about this: “Now we see as through a dim glass, obscurely; then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know even as I am known” (1 Cor 13:12).
